The Autumn Exhibition is Norway's largest marking of contemporary art and takes place, surprise surprise, each autumn. It is arranged by The Association of Norwegian Visual Artists (NBK). The exhibition is set up on the basis of free submission. I worked as Communications Officer for the exhibition in 2016 and the following spring in 2017, designer Aslak Gurholt Rønsen (who runs Yokoland) and I co-curated an exhibition showing The Autumn Exhibition's extensive archive of catalogues and posters — dating all the way back to 1882.
None of this material had previously been exhibited and we had such a fascinating time going through the myriad of printed ephemera. Many of the posters have been made by artists and designers such as Andreas Bloch, Willibald Storn, Leif Anisdahl, Paul Brand, Terje Roalkvam, NODE and Eriksen/Brown.
Furniture designer Mads John Tomseth designed and built a special red exhibition table for us and we painted all the supporting elements in Yves Klein blue, contrasting the red. I chaired a talk during the exhibition period about the design of The Autumn Exhition with studios NODE, Eriksen/Brown and Yokoland on the panel.
